And the Winner is…

On the special occasion of FTA’s 40th anniversary, the association has created the Members’ Award, a distinction, which aims to showcase member companies’ efforts in the field of international trade and sustainable supply chains.

Candidates were divided into three different categories:

  • Inspire: How have you contributed to sustainable trade among key stakeholders?
  • Support: How have you fostered and cascaded sustainability practices across your companies’ supply chains?
  • Grow: How have you increased the competences of people in your company and in your supply chain to promote a sustainable future for all?

At the annual FTA conference, Unleash Opportunity, SOK Corporation, represented by Lea Rankinen, ‎Senior Vice President, Sustainability and CSR, was announced as the official 2017 Members’ Award winner.

SOK Corporation, under the theme ‘Inspire’ was selected because of the company’s respect of human rights across their supply chain as an integral part of their sustainability strategy; their strong relationship with the Finnish Government; and their implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Human Rights.

“I think the open dialogue with stakeholders and our preparedness to defend the free civil society through concrete action made an impression on the jury and the organisation’s members. S Group defended the human rights activist Andy Hall in a trial in Thailand in the summer of 2016,” said Ms Rankinen.

Other finalists chosen include Kesko Corporation, under the theme ‘Support’ for innovative solution to communicate about the origin of the products, and Tristyle GmbH, under the theme ‘Grow’, for their close relationship with their producers and support through FTA training workshops.

By sharing these inspiring stories and best practices, FTA believes we can demonstrate how the power of our global network can unleash opportunities. Through our cooperation with myclimate each finalist contributed to reducing 40 tonnes of CO2 each, through the China-based project, Cooking with Corn Cobs Instead of Coal.
