REGISTER NOW: Promoting Responsible Business Practices in Asian Supply Chains

On 3 - 4 October 2017, FTA will convene its first Asia Sustainability Symposium titled Promoting Responsible Business Practices in Asian Supply Chains in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Labour Organization (ILO), European Union (EU), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Sri Lankan government, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and John Keels Holdings, the symposium aims to provide a platform for companies and key regional stakeholders to connect, share good business practices, and define solutions to key challenges of national and regional relevance.

Over the two days, regional experts from UN agencies, regional government officials, and business representatives from FTA members companies and producers based in Asia will lead discussions to advance priority areas for supply chain sustainability. Topics such as promoting business integrity, migrant workers and forced labour, environmental challenges, empowerment of women, and the impacts of One Belt One Road on businesses will be covered to explore replicable approaches taken by companies with a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as adherence to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). 

The event is designed to:

  • Raise awareness of high priority areas in terms of supply chain sustainability for the region
  • Define how businesses can support and contribute to protecting the current and future needs of people and planet through the UN SDGs 
  • Share good business practices through practical case studies 
  • Develop multi-stakeholder collaboration on supporting projects
